'We made Lewisham Green' - Liam Shrivastava is new Lewisham mayor
Ecstatic Greens celebrate historic win, taking mayor from Labour for first time since role established in 2002.
After a fierce battle, Greens were overjoyed as Liam Shrivastava was declared mayor of Lewisham with 35,265 votes.
Labour candidate Amanda De Ryk came second with 30,374 votes.
Thanking the people of Lewisham, Liam Shrivastava said "I do not take this lightly and I will not let you down"
Referring to his reputation as a trouble maker at the previously Labour dominated council, he said "perhaps we need to make necessary trouble to truly deliver for our communities ..
"In these dark times, we have to rise to the challenge ..
"The people of Lewisham have spoken and they have very clearly, decisively said that they are done with business as usual ..
"They have rejected an establishment that has too long ignored them and took their votes for granted ..
"We made Lewisham Green and now the real work starts."

Turnout was 42% of Lewisham's electorate of 207,948 and 0.5% of ballot papers were invalid.
